Lip Fillers: Before and Aftercare Tips

For lip filler to go without haematomas, bruises and heavy swelling, it is important to prepare: do not take blood-thinning products and give up alcohol at least one day before the procedure. Afterwards, 7 days without alcohol, 2 weeks without the sauna, sun and heat on the lips, and the first three days without exercise or active facial expressions.

Before the procedure

  • Using blood-thinning substances or medicines before the injection increases the risk of haematomas and affects how severe they are.
  • Give up alcohol at least one day before the procedure — this will reduce the risk of haematomas, bruises and significant swelling.
  • Cold compresses can be applied before the procedure to make the blood vessels constrict and reduce the risk of bruising.
  • To find out how to prevent a cold sore flare-up, ask your cosmetologist a month before the procedure.

After the procedure

Period What to avoid
7 days alcohol
2 weeks the sauna and hot baths — to avoid bacteria and the dilation of blood vessels
2 weeks excessive time in the sun and under UV lamps
2 weeks any heat on the lips: hot drinks and food
first 3 days heavy lifting and extreme sports: exercise raises blood pressure and increases blood circulation
first 3 days active facial expressions around the mouth — wide smiles and passionate kisses
until fully healed cosmetic products at the filler injection sites

Cold compresses can also be applied after the procedure — they reduce the risk of bruising.
